PLA versus ABS

PLA Material3D printing is full of acronyms and two of the most important are PLA and ABS.  PLA is a type of biodegradeable plastic whereas ABS is made out of oil based resources.  For ABS think lego bricks.  So what is the difference between the two?

ABS parts tend to be stronger and last longer but printing gives off fumes when printing so you need a well ventilated room. ABS can also be more difficult to 3D print than PLA.

PLA is not as strong as ABS but is easier to print.  It does not give off fumes and is more environmentally friendly.  If strength is not a big issue I prefer to print in PLA.
